The release cycle is not yours

App Store and Play review sit between a finished build and a user, and review times are variable rather than guaranteed. That changes engineering practice: hotfixes cannot be assumed, so feature flags and remote config stop being nice-to-have and become the mechanism for turning off a broken feature without shipping a new binary.

The device you tested on is not the device they have

Older Android hardware, small screens, low memory, poor connectivity. An app that is smooth on a current flagship can be unusable two model years back, and the users most likely to be on that hardware are often the ones the product most needs. Choose the floor deliberately and test against it.

Offline and sync

Mobile connectivity fails mid-action in a way desktop rarely does. If a user can start something on a train, the app needs a local state that survives, a conflict rule for when the same record changed on two devices, and an honest interface for pending work. Adding sync to an app designed as an online client is close to a rewrite.

Permissions, push and the privacy labels

Every permission prompt is a moment a user can say no, so the order and the timing matter commercially. Both stores also require a declaration of what data the app collects and shares, and it has to match what the app actually does, including whatever the analytics SDK does on your behalf.

Language

English, though Irish has constitutional standing and appears on public sector interfaces. For commercial work it does not arise, which is worth confirming early rather than discovering during UAT.

Where the data can live

AWS eu-west-1 is here and it is one of the oldest and largest regions in the world, which means Irish clients often already have infrastructure in place and the question is integration rather than selection. Azure North Europe sits here too.

Payments

SEPA and euro throughout, with Revolut holding unusually high penetration for a challenger bank, so account-to-account expectations run ahead of most of the eurozone. Card-only checkout reads as dated here in a way it does not in, say, Germany.

The multinational EMEA headquarters layer defines the market, alongside pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturing and the aviation leasing industry, which is disproportionately concentrated in Ireland and runs on genuinely specialised software.

The mistake we see most

The buyer is local and the standards are set elsewhere. A Dublin client that is the EMEA arm of a US company will run the evaluation locally and then hand you contract terms, security requirements and an architecture review written in another timezone. Find out in week one whether the parent has a say, because discovering it at contract stage costs a month.
